Go back to an earlier version

Find an older version of a scene, compare it with today's text and restore it — without losing anything.

Updated Oct 11, 2026

Inktoria keeps earlier versions of every scene automatically, and you can save named snapshots whenever you like.

Restore a scene

  1. Open the scene and choose History in the inspector (or the History view).
  2. Pick a version. The comparison shows words added in green and removed words struck through.
  3. Choose Restore this version.

Restoring never deletes today's text: the version you replace is kept in History first, and Undo appears right after restoring.

Save a snapshot before a big change

Before a major rewrite, choose Save snapshot and give it a name such as Before cutting chapter 3. Snapshots are kept until you delete them.

The whole book

Project history saves a snapshot of every document at once and can compare or restore the whole manuscript.

How long automatic versions are kept depends on your plan (Free: 30 days). Named snapshots don't expire.
