Back up and restore a project
Download a complete, open copy of your project and restore it any time as a new project.

Your work is yours. Backup & restore (in the workspace's Publish group) downloads everything in a project: the manuscript, notes, research, characters, places, timelines, plot structure, comments and settings.
Two kinds of backup
- Backup file (.json) — everything except uploaded files. Small and quick.
- Complete archive (.zip) — the backup file plus all your uploaded files (images, research documents).
Tick Include version history to add saved versions and snapshots too. It makes the file larger.
Keep backups wherever you like: on your computer, a USB stick or any other storage you choose.
Reminders
Set a Backup reminder and Inktoria shows a gentle nudge when your last backup is older than you chose. The page also shows when you last downloaded one.
Restoring
Choose Restore from a backup (or Restore backup on the Projects page) and pick a .json or .zip file. Restoring always creates a new project — nothing existing is changed or overwritten.
Want your manuscript as Word, EPUB or PDF instead? That's what Compile is for.
